Via del Fondaccio

This street in the historic center of Santa Fiora preserves perhaps more bas-reliefs dating back to the Middle Ages than any other place in the village, including an anvil on the ancient workshop of a blacksmith. Of particular note are two lintels with scenes representing the boar hunt and an episode of the Buddhist-Christian legend of Barlaam and Josafat. In the latter, a man chased by wild animals finds refuge on a palm tree from which he sees, down below, a threatening dragon.
