Via Carolina

Known in ancient times as the corso del Ricco, it is the main street of the Castello district and connects the main Piazza to the Porticciola gate, nearby the parish church.
Since the Middle Ages, prestigious houses were built along this street, with large portals on the ground floor that opened onto shops of merchants and artisans.
Its current name pays homage to the English noblewoman Caroline Shirley, who married Duke Lorenzo Sforza Cesarini of Santa Fiora in 1837.
