Piazza San Michele

The square takes its name from a former church of San Michele in Castello, which was the seat of the flagellant Confraternity of the Disciplinati from the 15th to the late 18th century.
The statue of St. Michael on the façade of the building depicts the archangel with his sword, victorious over the Devil, and with scales to weigh the souls of the dead.
An epigraph recalls Luigi Bani, one of the founders of the Workers Society of Santa Fiora in 1889 and director of the Rosselli company at the Siele mercury mines, who was robbed and killed while delivering the wages to the miners.
