Piazza 12 Giugno

In the final stages of World War II, Mount Amiata, as a natural obstacle, was of strategic importance for the retreating German army. General Kesselring established in Santa Fiora the command of the 14th Armored Corps on June 12, 1944. On the same day, the American Air Force bombed the village, destroying many houses in Via delle Belle Donne and Via Carolina and causing the death of twenty-four civilians. An epigraph and the monument by Ildebrando Casciotta commemorate the victims.
